Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival

The annual Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival takes place from May 12 to 20, 2012. Enjoy such events as the Victoria Tartan Parade, Tilted Kilt Pub Crawl, Torchlight Clan Ceremony, an International Drum Major Challenge (new for 2012) and the Canadian Heavy Events Championship. Island Farms Victoria Day Parade

This will be the 114th year of the Victoria Day Parade, one of Canada’s longest running parades. This year’s parade theme is 150 years, to help celebrate Victoria’s 150th birthday! The parade draws about 100,000 viewers, runs about 3 hours and typically features several marching bands, beautiful floats, entertaining clowns and much more. The parade route is from Mayfair Mall to Humbolt Street, along Douglas Street.

Luxton Pro Rodeo

The 37th Annual Luxton Pro Rodeo takes place on May 19-21, 2012 (Victoria Day Weekend). Free gate admission to view the Antique Farm Equipment, Carnival rides, Blacksmith demos and Heritage Displays. Rodeo admission tickets are $15 or $20, and gates for the rodeo admission open daily at 1 pm.

Dinosaurs: Ancient Fossil, New Discoveries

The Royal BC Museum hosts this blockbuster exhibit from May 17th to September 16th, just a couple blocks from our hotel. View gigantic life-size cast skeletons of T. Rex and Stegosaurus, play with interactive simulations and animations, walk through a diorama depicting the 130 million year old Liaoning forest (northeastern China) and much more. Swiftsure International Yacht Race

Hosted by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club is the 69th Annual Swiftsure International Yacht Race (since 1930), taking place off the coast of southern Vancouver Island on May 26-28, 2012. Weekend long festivities will be taking place at the Inner Harbour. The race kicks off at 10 am on May 26th, near Clover Point, and features three overnight race courses (80, 103 & 139 nautical miles).

Queen Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton: A Diamond Jubilee Celebration

Be sure to include a visit to this very special exhibit at the Royal BC Museum, on display from June 1st to September 3rd, showcasing nearly 100 portraits by royal photographer Cecil Beaton (1904-1980). The exhibit includes a number of rarely seen photographs of Queen Elizabeth and the royal family. Admission into the RCBM during this exhibit also includes admission to see Dinosaurs.

Victoria International Cycling Festival

This will be the second year for this exciting festival in Victoria, which takes place from June 1-24, 2012. Look for many of the highlight of this year’s festival to take place at the Inner Harbour and around downtown Victoria. Bastion Square Grand Prix takes place on June 3rd, which is thrilling for the thousands of spectators that line the 900 meter long course to cheer on riders as they reach speeds of 65 km/hr, side to side, wheel to wheel. Talk about nail biting!! Jumpship is another must see competition event which will take place on a barge in the Inner Harbour and showcase the world’s best free-ride mountain bike riders. Canada Day Celebrations & Fireworks

There will be a number of family-friendly events happening around the capital to celebrate Canada Day on June 30th and July 1st, 2012. One highlight is the living flag, which takes place on the lawn of the nearby Parliament Buildings – let’s see how many we can have included in this year’s flag? Victoria International Buskers Festival

This family-orientated festival takes place at Victoria’s Inner Harbour and around downtown July 20th to July 29th, 2012. Admission is free to be entertained by these exciting buskers as they perform at various stages around Victoria in a total of 500 performances. Acts include juggling acrobats, comedians, magicians, one man band, fire tamers, and one of Victoria’s most famous buskers – violinist Darth Fiddler. 2012 Canada Dry Victoria Dragon Boat Festival

Happening August 17th to 19th is one of city’s most spectacular annual summer festivals and the only Dragon Boat Festival in Canada to take place in a Working Harbour. Watch and cheer on 90 Dragon Boat Teams from across North America as they race across a 500-metre water course just steps from our hotel at the beautiful Inner Harbour.
